Under what circumstances does the City activate the warnings?

The present system is used to warn of impending severe weather conditions that threaten our area. Below is a list of possible scenarios where the warning will be used when:

  • National Weather Service (NWS) has detected a severe thunderstorm, containing winds of 55 mph or greater and/or hail of one inch or greater, that will impact Fairfield or its surrounding areas.
  • NWS has detected the possibility of a tornado that will impact Fairfield or surrounding areas.
  • Trained weather spotters of the surrounding areas see something that can pose a threat to the citizens of Fairfield or the immediate surrounding areas.
  • Person in charge of reviewing radar data feels that a storm could pose a threat to the citizens of Fairfield.
